March 8, 2019 – My question today was to the Minister of Health. When will SANE services be offered in Truro for victims of sexual assault.

I asked the Minister of Health if he could tell me the process that front-line workers have when confronted with a non-verbal patient in Emergency rooms. He responded by saying that our front-line medical staff are fully-trained to deal with these types of situations and he will follow-up with me and the family.

I asked the Minister of the Environment if she could address this issue of the eroding Noonan Beach and would commit to visit the area to talk with the residents of the area and see the damage.

She responded by indicating that this is not a localized issue. As soon as she sees the correspondence regarding the Noonan area she would update me.

I asked the Minister of Health if it was acceptable for students to have to wait 1-2 months for nurses to see them in schools and if it was acceptable to have EPAs and Teachers having to learn complex medical treatments for students that take nurses six years to learn.

The Minister of Education tabled a document the improvements they intend to make to help students with medical needs.

I asked the Minister of Justice to share what his department is doing to improve the Maintenance Enforcement Agency to collect the $60 million currently outstanding. He shared that they have hired more people in Cape Breton and are working with agencies across Canada.

My question today was to the Minister of Health. I asked to speak about the >1 year wait for elderly inpatients for the wheelchair program and the >3 year wait for elderly outpatients. He assured me that he was going to look into the specific case I asked about but the wait time numbers were not the numbers he has. He is going to look into this matter further.

With the family’s consent, I brought a disturbing issue to the house today regarding children being removed from their home due to a false report and incorrect drug test. When I asked the Minister of Community Services to apologize to the family during the sitting of the house, she politely declined indicating that she does not speak to specific cases in the house. She did assure me that she would have her department look into it further.

Today I asked the Minister of Education to meet with me and the Principals of Auburn High, Cole Harbour High, and Island View High to discuss the future of these schools. Listen for the Minister’s response.

The question posed to the Minister of Community Services was to ask if the Minister would admit that the services available for sexual assault victims is inadequate throughout the province of Nova Scotia. The Minister responded by saying that they are committed to improving resources.
